Day Ninety One

Anything can happen on the 13th? as say the lyrics of an evergreen by Kasia Sobczyk, and it did.

By the tower 13 raptors but much more was happening by the sea. A beautiful flight of kittiwakes, close to the shore, in flock even up to 7 birds! Altogether 38 beautiful, shapely kittwakes. Birds counted by: Piotr Zientek, Dawid Kilon.

We were missing 13 owls to a long-awaited 500. Fortunately there wasn?t much waiting before at 7 p.m. we saw nets full of owls and moreover new ones were still coming. Thus on the first walkaround there were 45 downy creatures! Dawid Kilon was puttin on aluminium rings as if he were a robot and the rest of the team was fearlessly fighting the coldness of the night and the claws of the birds by te nest. The first walkaround was foreshadowing the night so reinforcements from Gdańsk, Jurata and Krynica itself appeared. We were ready for this night in numer of 10 while the wind got stronger and discouraged owls from migrating. Only at 4 in the morning new birds appeared. As a result we had our record breaking day (or actually night) of this season: 67 owls in total!
